50mm wide Kite Zipper Pull in Medium Blue Tint Acrylic

Continuing with the Stunt Kite Zipper Pull project:
Here is the same design as in the previous post in a transparent format. What’s really great about this material is that the engraved lines change from dark to light with the angle of light rays & reflections. This this type of design often utilizes the contrast of fluorescent material, but the lines are clearly visible with this non-flourscent material too; albeit more subtle.

Top & Bottom with paper still on. *Note burn marks from laser.

Protective Paper
When laser cut parts arrive, they are covered in beige color paper that protects the unetched surfaces from being scratched. *Notice how the paper between the lines at the bottom center of the kite spines is very intricate which make removing the sticky paper a little more challenging.

Bottom/smooth side paper is easy to remove.
Most of the paper is removed with duct tape.

Easy Weeding
The numerous tiny pieces of paper on the engraved side of the acrylic are an absolute pain to remove piecemeal. So duct tape is rubbed firmly against that side and most of the pieces are lifted off with the tape. Then the remaining pieces are removed with a stamping motion with the unused parts of the tape.

Light Angles
Here you can see how the light reflects differently against the paper with the etched lines on the top and bottom surfaces. *Note the tiny pieces of paper still stuck to the acrylic on the 8e logo.

Same lighting setup with front to back rotation.

Final Thoughts
Another example of the light reflections with the zipper pull being dangled as it would on my bag. Notice how the thicker area engraved lines are hardly visible on the lower image. For the next batch of these, I’d probably remove some of the smaller lines towards the lanyard hole as that would reduce the laser cutting cost without loosing impact of the design.
